Gettysburg

The afternoon was spent in and around the beautiful town of Gettysburg. Many of the civil war dwellings still remain and are identified by a small brass plaque by the front door. Some even still show the scars of war with gunshot holes clearly visible. We lunched at the Gettysburg Pub. We ate a Rueben sandwich which was very tasty. After lunch we went to the Civil War museum to watch a documentary and view a Cyclorama which is a stunning 360° cylindrical painting depicting the Battle of Gettysburg. It is 6.7m high and 85m in circumference. We then boarded the bus to tour the battlefields. A very knowledgeable local guide accompanied us and provided the commentary. The battlefields are a national park. There are 1,320 monuments and markers, 410 cannons, 148 historic buildings, and 66 km of roads in the well maintained and beautiful area.
