We have literally walked our legs off. This morning we toured the town of Munich and I must say it was a pleasant surprise. When we drove in last night Stephen and I were both a little underwhelmed. We didn't thing Munich was a very pretty city at all. Boy were we wrong. There are many very beautiful buildings in the centre of the city. Our guide for the morning - Michael, was extremely entertaining as he led us up numerous back streets and through courtyards and squares. We finally made our way to the glockenspiel for the 12 noon 'show.' Very quaint. We then had a couple of hours of free time. A few of us headed to the famous beer garden for a leisurely lunch. The food was sensational. I had the best fish soup I have ever eaten.
It was then back on the bus for the trip to Dachau. This was a very moving experience. Not one I ever want to do again but I am happy that I have at least been there once. The whole site is now a memorial park. Like Gallipoli and the Western Front, Dachau stands as a very stark reminder of the cruelty of war.
