Durnstein marks the beginning of the Wacchau Valley. A very pretty stretch of the Danube that meanders between Durnstein and Melk. Stephen decided that he would take the opportunity to take the 32km guided bike ride from Durnstein to Melk. While I choose to sit on our balcony or on the top deck and wave as we watched the group cycle along the bike path right next to the Danube. The scenery was spectacular. The Danube has also now changed colour. It more resembles the aqua colour of the rivers and streams we saw in Switzerland.
We did have time in the morning to wander the very pretty streets of the town which is famous for the fact that it was here Richard the Lionhearted was imprisoned before a 'king's ransom' was paid for his release.
